The floppy hat – an absolute classic

Topic overview

Floppy hats combined in a clever way
Who are floppy hats suitable for?

What makes a floppy hat?

Wide brim
The brim can be partially bent upwards

Wide brimmed hat for women

History of the floppy hat

In the past, the special headgear was worn in particular by employees of the secret services. The hats were very useful for disguising oneself, since with their large and wide brim they can be pulled deep into the face. In Europe, the slouch hat was part of the costume during the Thirty Years’ War. At that time, the slouch hat was common in combination with a military style of clothing.

The floppy hat nowadays

Nowadays, the floppy hat is the perfect companion in almost every everyday situation. On holidays, but also for leisure activities such as cycling, gardening, on the playground or even when shopping, a slouch hat is ideal and at the same time looks timelessly modern. Bucket hats, on the other hand, have a slightly narrower brim, but are sometimes also referred to as floppy hats.

In summer, floppy hats made of lightweight materials such as straw or linen provide plenty of shade and protect the face from intense sunlight. On cold and rainy days in autumn and winter, a wide brimmed hat made of wool or felt is ideal.

Floppy Felt Hat for Ladies

Courage for colour

The floppy hat is not only available as a classic in black and white, but also in all sorts of bright colors and patterns. In summer in particular, intense colors such as pink, raspberry red, light blue or coral are welcome. In winter, muted tones are ideal, such as bordeaux, a dark blue or even a warm grey.

Floppy hats with style

The floppy hat is a true all-rounder, because it can not only be combined with casual everyday outfits, but also with elegant evening dresses. Whether for the next beach party or wedding, the wide brimmed hat is a chic companion for special occasions. High-quality models with tasteful applications such as a bow or a net ensure an eye-catcher and a breathtaking appearance.

Tips for your outfit:

Sun hats made of straw are particularly easy to integrate into elegant beach party outfits
With flowing and light dresses or shirts with flat sandals, you will be the absolute eye-catcher at the party

Women's floppy straw hat

Who are floppy hats suitable for?

Due to the now diverse selection of shapes, colours and materials, both women and men can benefit from the countless possible uses and combinations of this fashionable floppy accessory.

For women

A floppy hat is ideal for women, as it lies loosely on the head and does not destroy elaborate hairstyles. The floppy hat is available in a wide variety of colours and with unusual patterns. Choosing the right floppy hat doesn’t get any easier, of course. Should it be a patchwork look, a linen hat with a patterned hat band or a grosgrain hat? There is also a choice of patent hats or sophisticated occasion hats.

Wide Brim Floppy Hat for Women

For men

Men are no less spoiled for choice: they can choose a men’s hat from Stetson, a functional floppy hat with UV protection or a water-repellent rain hat with an extra wide brim.
